Saw Pygmy Lush tonight. They have two sets of songs: quiet and loud, and tonight, they played the quiet ones. New and unreleased quiet ones! Sadly, they didn’t play my favorite song linked above, “Asphalt”. Their set was folk-y and acoustic sounding until the very end when they did five-plus minutes of noise. That’s when I plugged my ears due to the volume. In that time they could’ve played two more regular songs…like “Asphalt”. Yep, should’ve played that. Pygmy Lush started as an ex-Page Ninety Nine band but since then has become a permanent fixture in my playlist. The headlining band of the night, Ancient Sky, wasn’t really my thing. They had a Black Mountain vibe going on, in the psyche/proto-metal vein. Just at the peak of their first song that induced a hazy weed atmosphere, a guitar string broke. Five minutes later the set continued. I thought that was funny. Listen to “Asphalt” when it’s raining outside. Warning: it’s not a summer jam or an uplifter.
