Beck rules. From his 1994 record, One Foot In The Grave, I present to you: “Asshole”. A relatively unknown song compared to his hits like “Loser” and “Where It’s At”, don’t expect the normal high energy and cut-copy-sound-collage-weirdo sound. Instead, like the whole album that it comes from, expect a downer acoustic jam. Not too far off from his cover of Sonic Youth’s “Green Light”. If you missed it, you now have no excuse. “Asshole” is one of those songs that I can listen to endlessly on repeat. While, no, he doesn’t sing lyrics as incredible as his “The sales climb high through the garbage-pail sky/ like a giant dildo crushing the sun…,” he does rhyme “embarassed” with “carrots”. Yeah, awesome, right? Well, if you’re brimming on ecstacy, prepare to be pushed over by Beck’s website: he’s been upping covers of every song on The Velvet Underground’s The Velvet Underground & Nico. Yep, Beck rules.
