Tonight I saw Harvey Milk open for Torche at the Music Hall of Williamsburg. Both bands were loud and heavy, but Harvey Milk was the heaviest band I’ve ever seen. I could literally feel my body shaking from the low end. Cool to see a band that formed in the early nineties, so a relatively older metal band, that was still louder and abrasive than most. They didn’t play my favorite, “Death Goes To The Winner,” but still managed to crush my earplugged eardrums for over forty five minutes. Torche was great. The vocals, my least favorite part about their music, was buried under their loud heaviness and high energy set. They played a new song off an upcoming split with Boris that will surely turn your dick from flesh to lead. Guitar dude and drummer dude were smiling and having the night of their life while the bassist was rocking the shit out of his night and definitely ruining his next day via sore neck. (Bassist dude was headbanging, etc.) Most entertaining was the backpacked man in the mosh pit furiously punching and whirling as a tall-blonde-angry woman repeatedly pushed him around. The randomness of the evening, was informed about it only hours earlier, was a nice finish to missing the Black Lips at East River State Park for being late and …Trail of Dead because lightning cancelled the show. I heard there was an naked dick on stage for Black Lips…sounds amazing.

Sidenote: the last time I was at the Music Hall of Williamsburg was when it was called Northsix and my old band Goddammit opened for End of a Year. It looks way more professional now… reminiscent of Bowery Ballroom…at least in the downstairs lounge room.
